Installing TELESYNC Software Upgrades Using HyperTerminal 1. Save the Software Upgrade >From the TELESYNC homepage, under SUPPORT, FTP Software Downloads, save the latest version of the 235 software update to a directory in your computer. Typically, files are saved in directory: c:\temp. For example, from the homepage, right click the upgrade to be saved (235_106.zip), and select Save As and then store in desired directory. Unzip the file as required to obtain the download code (235_106.hex) in your directory. 2. Setup HyperTerminal 1. Open HyperTerminal, Single click Start, move cursor to Programs, Accessories, (Communications), highlight HyperTerminal and click to open. Then, double click Hypertrm(.exe) to activate HyperTerminal. Select New Connection and Enter a file name in window, suggested name of 235DNLD, and press enter. 2. Under Connection Using box click on the down arrow, select Direct to COM1 (typically COM1 is the RS232 serial port, if other port is to be used select as required). Click OK and COM1 properties window opens. 3. Under COM1 Properties, set baud rate to 38400 bit per second, 8 data bits, no parity and 1 stop bit. Set Flow Control to None. Click Advanced button to open Advanced Port Settings, disable Use FIFO. Select OK to close Advanced Port Settings and select OK to close COM1 Properties windows. The HyperTerminal operating view should appear. For Windows NT, go to the Control Panel, Ports, select the port to use (COM1), click the Advanced button, disable Use FIFO and then select OK and close port window. It is imperative to deselect Use FIFO. 4. From the operating view, click on File (top left corner), and double click Properties to open 235DNLD Properties window. (The Phone Number tab should show Connect Using: Direct to COM1 or the Com Port selected in 2.2 above.) Click on the Settings TAB and click ASCII Setup button to open. Under ASCII Setup, ASCII Sending, set Line delay: 1 milliseconds, Character Delay: 0 milliseconds, do not select Send line ends with line feeds or Echo typed characters locally. Click OK to close ASCII Setup and click OK to close Properties. 5. Click File and Save to store the HyperTerminal configuration. 3. Download Software into the Unit 1. Connect the RS-232 cable from the computer to the card slot that is to be upgraded. After installing cable, press the Enter key on the terminal and the unit should respond with its prompt: 1569>. 2. From the terminal type the command $$DOWNLOAD and press Enter. The unit will respond with its download prompt: Dnld>. Type the command LOAD and press Enter, the unit responds with several erasing memory messages and goes to a -> prompt character. At this point, the unit's program memory is erased and new software must be installed to operate normally again. Be careful and do not press any keys on the keyboard, as this will appear to the unit as part of the new software. If this should happen or a software download fails, from a -> prompt, enter the command END to return the unit to the Dnld> prompt. 3. Using the mouse, click Transfer and select Send Text File. In the Send Text File window, File Name box enter the directory and file name where the software upgrade file was stored, C:\temp\235_106.hex. Select Open (or press Enter key) and HyperTerminal will begin transferring the software upgrade to the unit and data will scroll across the terminal screen. The download takes 15 to 40 minutes depending on the computer speed and other applications that may be running. At the end of the download, if it completes normally, the Dnld> prompt will reappear. 4. Start the new software by entering the command GO. If the software is correctly loaded, the unit will output its normal power up startup messages and will be ready for operation. If an error occurred during the download, the unit will output a memory error message and return to the Dnld> prompt, in which case the software download will have to be restarted from the LOAD command in step 2 in this section. A failed download may be caused by not disabling Use FIFO, an error in the saving of the file from TELESYNC homepage, hitting an extraneous key between LOAD command and completion of software download, or a computer port problem. To correct a download problem, double check Properties settings, re-download software from the homepage, and increase the Line Delay, as noted above, from 1 to 10 milliseconds and repeat the download process.
